This watercolor likely results from one of Prendergast's trips to New England and probably shows Maine or Old Lyme, Connecticut. Like much of his work, it depicts leisure in a modern and idyllic New England landscape populated by young women. A vertical cypress tree contrasts with a factory smokestack in the distance.
