This ewer is one of the European tablewares used in the royal household of the Korean Empire. It is decorated with gold plum blossom design, the royal coat of arms of the Empire. The stamp on the foot, “CH PILLIVUYT CIE & PARIS EXP 1900 GRAND PRIX” identifies that this piece was a product of PILLIVUYT, a French porcelain company awarded the grand prize in the Paris Exposition of 1900. Having produced porcelain wares since 1818, the company has led the French porcelain industry up until now. This piece suggests that the Korean Empire ordered the French company to produce customized European crockery for the imperial household of the Korean Empire.
