The white-tailed skimmer dragonfly is found across Asia, Europe, and the Balkans. They are the most common dragonfly in Korea and males can be distinguished from females by looking at the colors of their chest and ventral side. Females are yellowish and males are light blue.
The insect is around 3cm long with short antennae and a rounded rectangle-shaped head. The back of its head is covered in long hairs. Its feelers are composed of 7 segments. The dragonfly has small, round compound eyes that protrude toward the anterior edge. The pronotum is dark brown and is covered in many long hairs, and its thorax is generally square. The legs are short and thick with more long  hairs on the shin.
