Wide Bowl

Punju, also called bunja or punja, is a large bowl used for mixing foods or serving cooked dishes. The bowl shown here is a large one with a wide mouth. Its width becomes narrower in a smooth curve from the mouth towards the foot. The mouth is wide while the bottom is narrow. These bowls are generally made of white porcelain, brassware and pottery. A typical example is white porcelain from the 18th and 19th centuries during the Joseon Dynasty. There are two types of bowls; one with a wide mouth and one with an inwardly retracting mouth.
