Bald Eagles do not get their white head and white tail until they are about 5 years old and ready to settle down with a mate. Monogomous, they mate for life or until one of the pair dies, That does not mean that they spend the whole year together, however. They spend much of the year apart and then return to the nest every year for nesting season to hatch and raise chicks as a pair.
