Albert Johnson acquired several Wild West Show photographs from Charles Stacy. This one was thought to have been taken during the Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. Walter Scott is pictured here in the front row, third from the right.
By 1899, Walter Scott was as a member of the 14-man group called “American Cowboys” in the show. Scott was reportedly a well-respected and highly skilled member of the troupe. However, he never attained a leadership position and was rarely singled out in the press. Scott became bored with the show as it began to lose its appeal to the public. He attained far greater fame on his own as “Death Valley Scotty.”
