Portrait photo of William Stanley. Stanley created the first large scale demonstration of alternating current electricity in the United States in Great Barrington, MA in 1886. After leaving Westinghouse, Stanley opened his own electric works, first in Great Barrington and then in Pittsfield, MA. Stanley sold his electric works to General Electric in 1903.
