London, United Kingdom

This carved panel made from walrus ivory shows two angels, in so-called 'Winchester' style. It was probably originally mounted on the roof gable of a house-shaped shrine, which would have contained holy relics. It probably dates to the second half of the 10th century, and was found in a garden in Winchester.
