This wine jug from Rhodes is embellished with a mixed profusion of fabulous creatures and floral motifs. The central register depicts grazing goats with large horns, while at the top, griffons mingle with the herds. At the bottom are lotuses, some open and others closed. The ‘Orientalising’ influences on Greek art arose from the growth of commercial ties between these regions in the 7th century BC.
