This cup, called a jue (jwey), likely held a single serving of wine, which was heated in a bronze vessel and served warm. This vessel may once have held rice or millet wine that was flavored with herbs, flowers, and tree resins. Scientists discovered these ingredients by sampling residues from similar vessels dating to China's Western Zhou period (1046В–770 BC).
