This metal token was recovered during a Stage 2 archaeological survey performed by Archaeological Services Inc. (ASI) in 1996 in Hamilton. Several artifacts were recovered during this test pit survey, including 19th century ceramic sherds. These findings led to further Stage 3 and 4 excavations in 1998 and 2000 to fully document the site before construction. The site was occupied initially in the early 19th century as a Euro-Canadian farmstead. This transportation token dates much later in time, and comes from Wingham, a community in north Huron County, located 150 km away from Hamilton.
