Winny v. Whitesides, Phebe (St. Louis Circuit Court)

First page of the 1821 Freedom Suit in which the enslaved Winny, sued her master, Phoebe Whitesides, for freedom after living in the free Indiana Territory. Winny won her freedom in 1824 and the case set the Missouri precedent "Once free, always free."
