The landscape "Winter in the Countryside" was created in Tarusa and embodies one of Nicholay Krymov’s favorite motifs – the snow-covered roofs of modest village houses. Krimov creates an atmosphere of deep peace and tranquility. Only the well-trodden paths between the houses suggest the presence of people. To achieve a feeling of calm and harmony, the artist uses not only compositional techniques, but also a special approach to colors. Krymov’s paintings are based on undertints, the combination of which enables him to imitate the onset of early evening dusk, the soft snow with lilac tints and yellowish houses seeming to shimmer under the setting sun. Krymov is able to grasp the fleeting moment and render it with colours, creates an affinity between Krymov’s art and impressionist works.
