Jacqueline Fowler is an Australian artist, based in the east of Melbourne, Australia. She states: 'I have been painting for thirty seven years now, full time for the last ten or so. Painting is a sometimes frustrating but thoughtful occupation, with the chance to listen to great music at the same time, and I wouldn’t wish to be doing anything else. There are similarities in the challenges of painting ‘en plein air’ and working in a studio setting, especially with florals; the landscape light changes quite rapidly but in the studio the flowers may move, open and wilt. I use a limited palette when choosing the subject and find a flow in the design, using the drama of the light to draw the eye in'. About this work Winter Light, Fowler stated: 'This is one of my paintings from when I went out painting with friends every week, pretty much whatever the weather. We called ourselves the Thursday Painters for want of a name for exhibiting, and met each other through our teachers, Graham Moore and David Moore, in the Croydon to Eltham areas (in the east of Melbourne, Australia). I was the youngest and would bring along whichever pre-school child was at home, finding areas that are now too developed and cleaned up. We painted together as a loose group for a long time'.
