Jan Griffier (ca 1652-1718)1652-1718

Hallwyl Museum

Hallwyl Museum
Stockholm, Sweden

The winter scene in this painting is very typical of Griffier with its minute details and bustling life in a mountainous landscape. His landscapes are reminiscent of earlier generations of painters like Pieter Breughel the elder and Hendrick Avercamp, and thus stand out from his contempraries. The painting is signed GRIFFIER.
