  • About Creator: Initiated by the hands of a mamulengueiro uncle, Mestre Zé Lopes (Glória do Goitá, PE, 1950-2020) would sculpt puppets out of pine nuts and manioc when he was still a boy, in order to reproduce for the people on the farm where he lived the performances he attended in the surrounding area. Until he was 16, he performed with his uncle, but he abandoned this art and only took it up again in 1981. Until his death, Mestre Zé Lopes remained faithful to the art of puppeteering, performing throughout Brazil, in Portugal and Spain, with his Mamulengo Teatro do Riso.
