Cavalry Captain Pilecki’s trial was one of the show trials conducted by the communist authorities against thousands of former Home Army soldiers and participants of the anticommunist underground. Sentences – political decisions – were determined out of the courtroom. It was an element of terror aimed at destruction of the pro-independence opposition and at terrorizing the society.
