The 26th Greater Poland Cavalry Regiment was formed in July of 1920 in Poznan as the 215th Voluntary Cavalry Regiment of Greater Poland. In 1921, it was renamed the 26th Regiment for its combat achievements in the Polish-Bolshevik War of 1920.
Uhlan regiments, together with Hussar and Horse Riflemen regiments, constituted formations of the Polish Army cavalry.
