Performing the Yaake, the male dancers stand shoulder to shoulder, quivering forward on tiptoe to accentuate their height, and launch into a series of wildly exaggerated facial expressions: eyes roll, teeth flash, lips purse, part and tremble and cheeks pout in short puffs of breath. At the height of their dancing, an elder woman dashes up and down the line of dancers to inspire greater performances.
