As an artist, Nadežda constantly insisted on painting types and characters that can be associated with a certain climate, so this color portrait, which belongs to the Serbian phase of Nadežda's painting, was created during 1905 when Nadežda made several paintings with this theme (Gypsies, Gypsies from Niš, Girl from Sićevo ...). The portrait of a woman from Prizren, also called "Gypsy", with a very impressive expressive characterization, is taken as an example of expressionist portrayal, in this case a colorful female person, where on the incarnations of faces and in the processing of clothes there are lavish reverberant coloring. The correlation of colored parties, especially in the relations between red and green, appears in this portrait just when the Fauvists appear on the Paris scene.
