Description: In 1916, Pierre Bonnard and his companion and muse, Marthe, traveled to Saint-Nectaire, a village in central France. There, he painted this view of Marthe gathering wild blossoms in a lush, verdant landscape. No doubt working from life in the open air, Bonnard painted Marthe as he saw her: a force of nature herself and an integral part of the landscape she inhabits.
