Ankle boots for women became popular from about the 1850s. They were made in a variety of different leathers and with a range of colours and forms of decoration.

This very attractive boot has a pale kid leather upper decorated with stitching, while the toe-cap is covered in contrasting and decoratively shaped black patent leather. The boot has a fashionable low heel and a softly pointed toe. The red front lacing adds a touch of bright colour.
