There were very few women licensed to practice law in the 19th century and the early years of the 20th. Part of the problem was that few law schools accepted women. Women also had to get a licensed lawyer to sponsor them before they ware able to take the bar exam. The advertisement here projects a future in which women can practice law freely if that is their ambition. Today, there are more women than men going to law school.
