Gerhard Schliepstein was a German sculptor and porcelain designer working in the art deco style. He worked mainly in porcelain, bronze and alabaster. Until the mid-1920s, his figurines were dominated by animal representations, but encouraged by Max Schneider, the artistic director of Rosenthal, he began to create expressionist sculptures glazed with white porcelain.
