This is a ceremonial coronet for women in the Joseon Dynasty. It began to be widely worn during the reign of Kings Yeongjo and Jeongjo, when women’s official hairstyle was changed to favor a center parting with a bun at the back. The coronet was made of several layers of paper folded into a thick frame that was glamorously decorated with assorted jewels. Women of royal or aristocratic families wore a black coronet, while women in the Hamheung area wore a green one. These coronets vary in shape and form according to times and regions.
