Women as domestic workers, by M.G. Bondfield. While Nancy Astor was the first female MP to take her seat in the Commons in 1919, it was another 10 years before a woman was selected to be a Cabinet Minister. Margaret Bondfield became the first woman to be appointed a cabinet minister when she was appointed as Minister for Labour in the Ramsay McDonald's 1929 Labour Administration. She had already been the first woman to be chair of the TUC General Council.
