Women gardeners put on their clogs ready for work, Second World War

A lot of the men who worked at our Gardens went to fight in the wars. Women took up jobs at the Gardens during both the First and Second World Wars. The women wore a peculiar uniform that consisted of an apron and clogs. Many of them called it their 'battledress'.
