Opponents of suffrage delighted in showing a world where women had taken over the roles of men despite their inability to perform. The lithogrtaph here of the ineffectual female stock brokers was probably a jab at Victoria Woodhull and her sister, Tennie C. Claflin, who, when taken under the wing of Cornelius Vanderbilt, had become stockbrokers. That Vanderbilt probably gave the pair tips on the market helped with their early success. When he withdrew his support, however, their "firm" failed.
