The costumes of Sifnos consist of a petticoat (“misofori” or “mesofoustano”), a white chemise of fine material, a “kanaloti” skirt and a sleeveless waistcoat (“tsipfi” or “dzipouni”). The long coat (“doulamas”) made of European brocade is trimmed with fur all round. The headdress consists of a distinctive kind of cap (“pina”, so named after the Pinna genus of shellfish) covered with a silk kerchief (“petsa”) and held in place by a silk ribbon (“zostira”).
