Wondrous apparition provided by magician

Yes, you have heard that before, and yes, there is a story in the name. A visitor to the gallery said, “I love your epic elephant painting“ and I might have named it “epic elephant” if I had not already given it a title. This painting is 24 inches tall, by 48 inches wide, and about 2.5 miles deep. Trying to convey the largeness of the animal with the vastness of Africa and it’s seemingly endless landscape. This painting is epic in the sense that it is not only a large painting but also contains a treasure of varied detail that invites everyone to take some time and “walk around a bit” in this painting.
From the moody colors of the stormy evening sky, the vastness of the landscape, to the shape and character of the trees, and of course the wrinkles in the skin and the wisdom in the eyes of the elephant himself, the eyes are and imagination are kept busy. I used lots of color to make my neutral tones and my grey, which, though it may sound like a contradiction; actually makes them all very rich and vibrant. As with all of my paintings, I kept this painting on an easel in my home for quite some time to look at and study and try to decide if and when it was finished. And one of the things I really like about this painting is that as the light changes in the room, the mood of the painting seems to change rather drastically. This painting could make a small room seem larger or a large room more grand. But its greatest accomplishment is how the apparition engages and fires up the imagination.
