Vasiliy Legkyi has been engaged in carving since the 90s. He first tried the technique in handcrafting lessons at school and continued his studies on his own. He started with simple things: spoons, figurines, jewelry, bracelets with ornaments, and pendants.

Vasiliy mentioned that there are many amulets in Ukrainian art. "When the houses were built and the foundation was laid people would carve the years of construction, protective symbols, and ornaments," he says. Svolok - the largest beam of a wooden house - was decorated with rosettes, stripes, and geometric patterns. Why did Vasiliy choose wood? The wood is pleasant to touch, it has a nice calming texture. Most of all, the artist likes to work with portraits, masks, and female figures.
