Golf club manufacturers, in this case Clapshaw & Cleave of Birmingham, branded their products in many ways. One of these was the shaft stamp, where the manufacturer's chosen details were burned into the wood of the club shaft.
Club repairers adopted the same method. It was not unusual for the head of the club to be stamped with one brand and the shaft of the club with another.
