Wooden mask, used in the Festival of Saint Stephen, on December 26th and January 1st. It was collected by D. Sebastião Pessanha and consists of a type of mask used in the traditional winter festivals of the region of Trás-os-Montes, in the northeast of Portugal, also generally referred to as "Young men's Festivals", which until the mid-twentieth century constituted in these communities important rites of passage for male youngsters to adulthood.
