Neokkarae is a tool generally used for gathering grains into one place in the threshing ground or removing snow. Resembling garae, or spade, it consisted of a blade and a shaft carved out of a single piece of large plank. Its blade is wide enough to gather grains, and its shaft is slim and rounded for easy grip. To sort out dust, dry grass, and chaff from grains by blowing them away, neokkarae was used to scoop up grains and scatter them into the air so that dust could be blown away and removed, a custom that was called neokkaraejil.
