Woodfigure of the Wittemoor 2

State Museum Nature and Man

State Museum Nature and Man
Oldenburg, Germany

Newest interpretations of the two wood figures, found in the year of 1965 near the bog path in the Wittemoor bog (Rural district of Wesermarsch), say that the find might have been used as some sort of traffic sign or way marker. They were placed near rough and difficult way sections along the path over the bog. The shown figure has been made out of oak wood and resembles a woman. Near the placement of this figure, they also found pieces of thoroughly sculptured wood, several poles made out of alder wood, as well as small stones.
