While many images of Victoria Woodhull in popular journals and newspapers were negative, this was not always the case. The lithograph here shows an incident where she was one of five women attempting to cast a ballot in New York, bringing along a copy of the Constitution indicating that it gave women the right to the franchise. The Republican poll watcher was inclined to agree, but his Democratic counterpart did not, and Woodhull eventually was turned away. Of the five women who showed up that day, only one, a Mrs. Miller, was somehow able to cast a ballot.
