Located on the Sydney Harbour foreshore, just north of Cockatoo Island, Woolwich Dock is a maritime precinct steeped in history. Constructed between 1899 and 1901, it is an important and rare example of a private graving dock. Specifically, it demonstrates the function and design of late nineteenth century graving docks and dockyard complexes.
The dock also became a strategic focus for engineering and shipbuilding in Sydney Harbour, having served the Navy during World War II. The dock, which is flanked by beautiful parklands with views across Sydney Harbour, received Commonwealth Heritage listing in 2004.
