Work Song was Wang Wenbin’s graduation work, the piece that made his name. The painting portrays the era candidly, depicting several country girls, placed above the eye level, singing and working together. The dynamic composition, with the subjects standing in a circle and reaching outward, creates an imposing visual effect and gives a sense of upward motion. Under the brilliant sunshine, the girls’ clothes become clear and transparent, and their youthful bodies are outlined with the sun's bright rays. The wide expanse of the sky and rolling mountains in the background add an air of grandeur and magnificence. At the same time, the rich coloration emphasizes the liveliness of this working scene, demonstrating a kind of fearless, lyrical national sentiment. This piece is also regarded as a classic example of the art of New China.
