The master model of an aircraft allows the production team to calibrate machinery to proper specifications, and serves as a template for verification.

Master models for the Arrow were made with a new material—plastic—rather than wood. This eliminated issues related to wood's tendency to expand and contract, which could create problems when it came to the extreme accuracy required when building aircraft parts.
