Turlough Park was built in 1865 for the FitzGerald family to designs by Sir Thomas Newenham Deane (1828-1899) who was knighted for his designs for The National Library of Ireland on its opening day in 1890. The estate’s 8,500 acres included a deer park, and the walled garden produced fruit, vegetables and garden plants.
