World War I Dutch Société Céramique plate, designed by Henri Verstijnen (1882-1940). This plate inscribed, "Onder Deez’boom is’t veilig" translates as, "Under this tree it is safe" and symbolizes the safety that The Netherlands provided the citizens of Belgium by staying neutral during the war. It also has the signature of the designer Henri Verstijnen who was employed at the Société Céramique between 1912 and 1918.
