Wrapping Cloth

Second half of 18th century

Sadberk Hanım Museum

Sadberk Hanım Museum
İstanbul, Türkiye

The wrapping cloth is embroidered with tent motifs arranged in staggered rows in the central field. The tents are embroidered in tambour work using silk thread in bands of colours graduating from dark to light. The contours and tent poles are worked in raised wrapped metal strip work. Each tent is surmounted by a finial and a standard. The same tent motifs run around the border.
