The painting shows the wrecked ship, 'The Glory' in a storm at sea. The donor, Mr Henry Thompson in a letter on file dated 30.4.1948 to Mr H. Bocking, states that according to tradition, the Glory was wrecked off the Goodwins and the captain who drowned was the father of John Baines, and grandfather of Henry and Thomas Baines. According to Henry Baines obituary, the Glory was owned by Mr Blencowe of King's Lynn, and John Baines, Henry's father, was the captain.
