Zhang Chongren, born in Shanghai. In 1914 he entered the photographic plate studio of Tushanwan Painting School to learn sketch and French following an Irish mentor. In 1931,he attended in the Department of Sculpture of the Royal Academy,Belgium (Académie royale de Belgique). In 1936 he returned to China and held solo exhibition in Shanghai. He established the“Chongren Art Studio”. He once taught in sculpture department of Shanghai Fine Art School and Shanghai Oil Painting and Sculpture Institute from the 1950s to the 1980s. He was invited to give lectures in France in 1985.
