This leather writing case contains a pouch for pencils, paper, and a slot for a ruler. It is branded with the slogan, "School Days" and is customized with the name of Maggie L. Walker's first granddaughter, Maggie Laura. Mrs. Walker presumably purchased this souvenir during one of her many trips to Hot Springs, Arkansas in the 1920s. After an April, 1921 visit to Hot Springs, Mrs. Walker wrote that she took 21 hot baths and received four massages during her stay. These therapeutic treatments helped the diabetic Walker regain her strength which she surely needed to continue her leadership.
