"The double bodied writing desk was made in Castile between the last quarter of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century. It is made of walnut, poplar, pinewood and cast iron.
Despite the sober decoration, there is a clear influence of the classicism of the Italian Renaissance interpreted in accordance with the Mannerism style.
Although its name is associated with the specific action of writing, writing desks, or bureaus, were pieces of furniture used mainly as containers where all sorts of small items, paper and documents were kept. The hinged flap could not withstand the same weight as a writing table; however, this did not mean that on occasions it could not be used as a writing table. In fact, inside the drawers of this piece of furniture there are some ink stains."
