This portrait
of a lady connected to one of the greatest families of Milan bears witness to
the international nature of the Trivulzio collection and the prestige of the
artists within it. The
painting is signed by the artist and the masterly paint application, passing
from fabrics to flesh tones with the finest of brushstrokes, confirms its
attribution. The silvery and blue tones are also significant as the artist's
chromatic signature, here in its mature phase.
The
woman is portrayed with the classic half-length setting and the painting
appears to be a real likeness, without being tempted to idealise the subject.
