Nohab trailers were purchased in 1948, with an order for six units for the Companhia dos Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses and five units for the State Railways. Used for additional capacity, these could be used on any of the broad gauge lines, whenever required due to increased passenger traffic.
Swedish-built, two variations were introduced in Portugal for the broad gauge network (one with a short bodyshell and one a longer version) along with a narrow gauge version. They had first and second class seats and small bathrooms behind the cabs, fabric seats in first class, wide windows that allowed viewing of the landscape and electric heating. These trailers provided commercial service on the same lines as the motor units, most notably in the Algarve, Alentejo, Sintra and Oeste region.
