Rufus Ogundele who comes from a christian Yoruba family was a fervent believer of Ogun, the god of thunder, fire and iron in traditional Yoruba chronology. He combined the European artistic techniques he learned at the Oshogbo workshop with the teachings of traditional Yoruba culture in his renditions. On Hunter's Prey you see fantasy images and forms rendered in geometric compartments which is very dominant in his style of expression. His rich use of colours is believed to be influenced by his strong inclinations to Ogun.
