Shark Jaws is an unlicensed tie-in to the movie Jaws. Atari manufactured the game in 1975 after the successful release of the film earlier that year. To help protect Atari from any potential lawsuits, the game was published under a hidden subsidiary called Horror Games. On the cabinet of the game, the connection to the movie is emphasized by the prominence of the word "Jaws" beside the small-printed "Shark."
In this one-player game, a deep-sea diver is armed with a harpoon gun. While avoiding the Great White shark, the player-controlled diver has to spear fish with their harpoon gun to score points. Shark Jaws integrated the new ROM chip technology of Tank to create more detailed on-screen graphics.
